It is with great regret that I find that I have to write to you concerning problems experienced by members of the Academic Asia group during our stay for the exhibition held on 01.11.07 - 02.11.07. Our party of 19 guests arrived on Thursday 1st November and all of us produced our credit cards on arrival and signed credit card vouchers as requested by your check-in staff. Following the exhibition in the hotel most of our party then proceeded to La Verdure restaurant for dinner. After dinner the various members of our group signed their bills in the usual way and gave their room numbers so that the cost of their meals could be added to their bills. We were all shocked when the staff of the restaurant told us that we could not sign our bills and the we must pay cash for our meals. To make matters much worse, we were not given any explanation by your staff although some of us were told "you must have SB card" - which none of us understands. We are all then marched very rudely to the reception desk where, again, members of your staff demanded cash payments from us. The whole process was deeply embarrassing and humiliating. I cannot understand why we were asked to provide our credit cards on arrival (in the normal way) but we then not allowed to charge the cost of our food to our bills (in the normal way). I greatly regret that way in which our group was publically humiliated in the restaurant and at the reception desk. I failed to understand why the hotel felt it necessary to treat our group in such a manner. Martin Webber Academic Asia
